The Philly Lantern

I spent last weekend in the beautiful city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and boy, did I have fun! It was my first time ever visiting Philly. The city has a lot to offer, especially historically, but what I was really interested in was the food and the local comic shops.

The first comic shop I visited was Fat Jack's Comicrypt. It's a nice little shop with a large selection of back issues. I'd say if you're looking for just comics, this is definitely the shop for you.

X-Men Arcade Game
The second shop I visited was Atomic City Comics. Now this is my kind of comic shop! This place puts a lot more emphasis on the non-comic goodness such as t-shirts, action figures, and get this...superhero arcade games! It's like a comic shop arcade. Can you imagine anything better?

If I lived in Philly and I needed a good solid comic shop to pick up my comic subscription, I'd probably go to Fat Jack's. But as a visitor looking for a fun, different kind of shop, Atomic City Comics is the place to be. I bought a Flash t-shirt for 15 bucks. "When in Rome", right?

And now, the main event: The Philly cheesesteak.

Pat's Cheesesteak
Geno's Cheesesteak
Carmen's Hoagies Cheesesteak
I sampled three different Philly cheesesteaks. When it comes to food, I'm pretty easy. I'd say 90% of the time, I'd take quantity over quality. However, for those of you who are interested in my opinion of the cheesesteaks that I ate, here it is. They were all fantastic. They are definitely a specific type of food that I haven't really had in New York. "Wiz" cheese was way better than provolone because it gets all over the meat and your face. Pat's had the best cheesesteak, Carmen's was a close second, and Geno's came in third. In conclusion, go to Philadelphia and eat as many cheesesteaks as you can.

I did check out other sights in Philadelphia, but let's face it, this is The Fat Lantern. Slobs and comics is what we do here!

  1. Did you check out the Mutter Museum? My favorite place in Philly to visit but not for the faint of heart!

  2. Yes! I did. I'm actually a Biologist, so all of that stuff was pretty interesting. And yeah it was gross too.

No pictures from there, though. Definitely not...
