WWE Battleground 2013 Predictions

Tonight is the first ever WWE Battleground pay-per-view (PPV)! I am an avid fan of professional wrestling (4 life). I like to speculate about what will happen before every PPV. Here are my WWE Battleground predictions.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow

There's not much to this match, buildup-wise. However, I do think Damien Sandow will win for two reasons. The first is because he's the current Mr. Money in the Bank and it would look really bad if they made him job at a PPV. I'll get to the second reason in a bit...

Winner: Damien Sandow

Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella (Divas Championship Match)

Recently, AJ has been coming to the ring with Tamina Snuka. I think Tamina will interfere in some way behind the referee's back, costing Brie Bella the Divas Championship.

Winner: AJ Lee

Kofi Kingston vs. Bray Wyatt

I think this is going to be a straight-up squash. They've been putting a lot of effort into making Bray Wyatt out to be a really crazy bastard and no effort into building up Kofi Kingston.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel vs. R-Truth (Intercontinental Championship Match)

I want Curtis Axel to retain the title. The Intercontinental Championship holds a special place in my heart and I wish it still had the same prestige as it did in the early 90's. However, Curtis Axel has been acting like a real jabroni lately. Also, Paul Heyman has completely diverted his attention to Ryback. I think Curtis Axel is going to expect some help from Heyman but Heyman is going to turn his back on him.

Winner: R-Truth (New Intercontinental Champion)

Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

Obviously, Cody is going to get his job back. I don't see how it would be good for the tag team champions to lose in a non-title match. But lots of champions lose in non-title matches these days.

Winners: Cody Rhodes and Goldust

World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (Battleground Hardcore Rules Match for the World Heavyweight Championship)

This is a match that I've been piecing together in my mind for weeks. Here is my vision. Ricardo Rodriguez has been way too far up RVD's ass. I think Rodriguez is going to turn on RVD and re-join Del Rio. Del Rio will win as a result. After the match, a scuffle will ensue and RVD will gain the upper hand. Then, RVD will smash Del Rio in the face with the Van Terminator. That's when Damien Sandow will come out, knock out RVD with a weapon of some sort, cash in the money in the bank, and pin the Van Terminated Del Rio.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio (Then Damien Sandow)

CM Punk vs. Ryback

At the last PPV, Night of Champions, Paul Heyman and Ryback got the upper hand over CM Punk. I think this is going to be where CM Punk gets his revenge. I think he's going to get a clean finish and beat the hell out of Paul Heyman after the match .

Winner: CM Punk

Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship Match)

This is a tough one. I think that Daniel Bryan is such a talented superstar all around. He's one of those total package guys who has mic skills, charisma, mat skills, a look, cool music, and a great rapport with the fans. To me, he is a model WWE Champion. However, Randy Orton has become a great heel in my opinion, especially for this storyline. They've really built him up to be an animal and he's a great in-ring worker. If they're smart, they'll continue this and have Orton win the WWE Championship (with some outside help from The Shield, Big Show, and/or Triple H). Not only will this help Randy Orton's heel run, but it will make it all that much more prestigious when Daniel Bryan eventually does win the WWE Championship.

Winner: Randy Orton (New WWE Champion)

At Night of Champions, Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship but was stripped of it the next night on RAW due to him allegedly working with the referee to have a fast count. The other possible end to this match is to have Randy Orton win with some controversy (such as a fast count) that will be sorted out the next night on RAW, resulting in Daniel Bryan getting the WWE Championship back.

Winner: Randy Orton (New WWE Champion...until RAW)

  1. My prediction: it's a non-major PPV. No titles will change hands.

None of these matches have been built with any momentum aside from Orton-Bryan. You talk about building Orton's heel run. They really need to focus on building faces right now. Their heels are pretty strong, but (aside from Bryan), there's nobody to carry the torch (with Cena gone for now). That's my reasoning for Orton going over.

Ziggler/Sandow is going to be match of the night. Both of those guys work like crazy.

  2. Well it's a non-major PPV but it's also an Inaugural one. Plus with the disappointment of mostly no title changes at Night of Champions, who knows?

But I think by building Orton's heel run they're make Daniel Bryan a bigger baby face. It's a lot harder to get heat back once you squash it.

I definitely agree that the Ziggler/Sandow match is going to be awesome, especially since it's kicking things off.
